George Panayotou

Councillor Candidate for Bicton - Attadale - Alfred Cove

Because I care

About Me

George.png

I ask for your support, as someone who genuinely cares, listens, and comprehends local issues.

I have lived in the City of Melville for over 25 years, with my wife Natalie, sharing five children, all raised in Melville, and a much-loved family dog, Hera.

I am passionate about our beautiful City and all it has to offer its residents, from our pristine riverfront, our native flora and fauna, to its many sporting and recreational facilities. We are lucky to reside in such a wonderful area of Perth.

My long history of involvement within the community extends more than three decades, having held volunteer roles in the City of Melville in a wide range of areas, including schools, sports, parks and waters.  I currently serve as Rear Commodore at a local yacht club, where I support youth sailing, club governance, and volunteer engagement, whilst I have held the position of Convener for two local reserves over past12 years, looking after the preservation of flora and fauna. My previous roles include being the first male year co-ordinator at a local high school, numerous years as team manager for my children’s sports and a significant contributor to the successful Heathcote action group.

These roles reflect my deep and extended belief in our local community. A vote for me, is a vote for our community.

ABOUT ME
WHAT HAVE I ACHIEVED

My Experience

I bring to this potential role a wealth of experience in managing people, having worked as a manager in the Resource Sector for over 30 years. I have worked on numerous projects around the globe, these experiences allowing me to work with and understand different cultures and people.

As a highly motivated Management Professional, I have vast experience in managing multimillion dollar budgets, project planning, personnel & asset security, building high caliber operational teams and capability, developing people, setting high goals and standards, and consistently achieving them.

With these tools, I aim to revitalise our aging amenities, which are in desperate need of an upgrade, and, concurrently, ensure sound fiscal management for the city of Melville’s budget.

Goals

I am acutely aware of the need for council investment in infrastructure to meet the needs of ALL the generations, from investment in our youth sporting and recreational facilities, and in particular Troy Park, to support services for the aged.

The “do nothing” approach is not the answer!

The lack of progress to provide something as simple as a female change room for our sporting facilities, where our daughters are required to share the same post WW2 amenities with the boys, is completely unacceptable.

Whilst development of aging facilities is one of my priorities, I do not take for granted some of our current facilities. We take our dog regularly to the Attadale Dog Park and feel blessed that we have such a beautiful public open space.  We do not want to lose that.

UPGRADE LOCAL AMENITIES

FISCAL
MANAGMENT

I recognise the rising cost-of-living pressures facing local families and retirees. As a former manager in the resource sector, I bring leadership, business acumen, and an understanding of how to balance service delivery with cost-efficiency. If elected, I will prioritise responsible budgeting, focus on reducing our rates burden, and the efficient use of community funds to deliver real value for residents.

ENVIRONMENT

Preserving the environment is a shared responsibility and a gift to future generations. For the past 12 years, I’ve served as Convener of the Friends of Wal Hughes and Ern Stapleton Reserves in Attadale, leading bushland care, native planting, and community education. I’d like to see a more coordinated approach to how we manage all our reserves city-wide—ensuring they remain accessible, safe, and ecologically healthy for years to come.

COMMUNITY SAFETY & SECURITY

Residents deserve to feel safe and secure in their neighbourhoods. I will advocate for better funding of Community Security and Ranger Services, with provision for more patrols, improved lighting, and expanded CCTV coverage in high-use areas. These initiatives are vital to both crime prevention and public confidence.

MY COMMITMENT - As a retiree, I have the time, energy, and independence to give 100% to this role. I will work hard to represent the people of our suburbs—listening with respect, acting with integrity, and building a future we can all be proud of.

Keeping families at the heart of every decision.

I hope for your support.
